During the sensitization exercise, Ramlakhan and team which also comprised Deputy Commander, Superintendent Allaister Roberts and sub-divisional officers and ranks, reinforced the importance of wearing masks properly, washing hands and social distancing.

“So far we have observed that the citizens are having an appreciation for the initiative and I’m certain that they will continue to adhere to the guidelines and take the necessary precautions to protect themselves from this virus. What we did during the walkabout was not just to tell people about the virus but we also gave them a flyer with all the senior police officers’ names and their contact numbers,” Ramlakhan told Village Voice Guyana.

The Region Six Commander said though the Force is responsible for enforcement, it has been recognised that access to information critical to fighting COVID-19. Thus far, some 1,000 flyers have been distributed across the region to educate people about the virus and how they can protect themselves.
Further, frequent and consistent patrols are done to ensure that residents adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines implemented by the Ministry of Health. The Government of Guyana has partnered with stakeholders, including the Guyana Police Force to combat the dreaded disease.
Region Six has recorded 67 cases of COVID-19.
