Epileptic Pastor drowns in backdam creek

The lifeless body of 53-year-old Maurice Wilson, a Pastor and Farmer of Vauxhall Canal # 2 Polder, West Bank Demerara, was found floating face downwards in a creek near his farm.

It is believed that the man drowned on Thursday between 06:00 h and 18:00 h.
Enquiries disclosed that the deceased suffered from epilepsy and at about 06:00 h the man’s wife Shundell, accompanied him to L’Oire Back Dam Canal #1, West Bank Demerara, where he continued his journey on foot by himself, to his farm which is situated about 180 rods from the Number #1 Canal Road.

About 18:40 hours last evening, the wife said she got worried about her husband’s wellbeing and whereabouts, since he didn’t return home. She then contacted a family friend who immediately dispatched a search party, about 19:15 hours. Upon making checks Wilson’s lifeless body was found floating face downwards in a creek to the western side of farm.

The search party contacted the family of the deceased who removed his body from the creek and summoned the Police to the scene. No marks of violence were seen on the exposed parts of the body.

Maurice’s body was then taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was examined by the doctor on duty who pronounced him dead.

Investigations are ongoing.
