Fomer Minister Simona Broomes, Minister within the Ministry of the Presidency, was this morning assaulted by a lone male who went to her home, threatened to kill her and ripped off signs of the lantern poles outside of her home.

The former minister, reported that she was working out downstairs when she heard the ruckus from the young man hurling verbal abuse at her, while using a hammer to remove the signs. The young man allegedly spewed politically affiliated threats and abuse and then hurried to make his escape to a dark tinted white car in which two accomplices were waiting for him half a block away.

The former minister, engaged a driver to pursue the assailant and the team was successful in following the car all the way to Sophia where two young men, one matching the description of her assailant where dropped off. Broomes reportedly followed the young men on foot until she caught up to them where they were stopped and asked for an accounting of their behaviours. The two young men were at the time in possession of the hammer and the signs which were vandalised from outside of the former minister’s property.

The attack on minister Broomes is the third in a series of alleged politically affiliated assaults targeted to members of the APNU-AFC coalition. As Guyanese pray for ongoing calm, there appears to be political interlopers who are bent on stirring up political conflict among Guyanese citizens. The police department is currently investigating and former Minister Broomes while very concerned for her own safety.
