NA man killed during row over Guinness

Police are investigating the murder of Nickosie Vankenie, 23, a labourer of Angoy’s Avenue,  New Amsterdam, Berbice which occurred Saturday night in the said area.

Police said the incident happened at Patrick Dam, New Amsterdam allegedly by a 29-year-old security guard of Pope St., New Amsterdam and who has since been arrested and is reportedly cooperating with investigators.

Enquiries revealed that about 23:40h the victim and suspect were under a shed next to a shop where they reportedly had an an argument over a “Guinness” and the suspect allegedly stabbed him twice in the region of his neck and abdomen.

The victim was taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he received medical attention and admitted in the ICU but succumbed to his injuries about 09:30h Sunday.

The suspect who fled the scene after the incident, was apprehended about 13:00h this afternoon and investigators are in possession of a statement from an eyewitness.
